Pilot Project: Robotics & Programming in Kinshasa
First online robotics and programming pilot class for Congolese youth, connecting learners in Kinshasa with instructors from the U.S. and RDC.
In June 2025, Bridges of Hope Academy launched its very first pilot project titled “Initiation to Robotics & Programming” in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The objective was to test a hybrid model of digital education with a group of 12 enthusiastic students aged 9 to 16.
The program introduced:
Scratch programming for game and animation design
Basic robotics using beginner-friendly kits (Arduino, LEGO, etc.)
Digital literacy tools and online learning etiquette
The sessions were hosted via video conferencing platforms, supported by local community partners who helped provide internet, supervision, and safe learning environments. Each student received hands-on support from both in-person assistants and remote instructors. This pilot served as a proof of concept and a stepping stone toward broader implementation across DRC and Francophone Africa. It showed that even with limited infrastructure, quality digital education is achievable through collaboration, passion, and accessible technolog
